Rhinoplasty is one of the most sought after cosmetic surgeries in London. Through this procedure, patients can alter the shape of their nose, according to their requirements. If a person feels unconfident about the structure of their nose, they can ask the doctors at ENT London about Rhinoplasty. Our clinic is situated in the heart of London. It is led by Professor R S Dhillon, one of the premier nose surgeons in the UK.
Rhinoplasty can be used to:
The nose mostly consists of bone and cartilage. While the top part of the nose is supported by bone, the lower part is held up by cartilage. The hollow interior of the nose is divided into two passages by the ‘nasal septum’. During Rhinoplasty, cosmetic surgeons use special techniques to reshape the bone, cartilage and soft tissue of the nose.
Nose surgery is carried out after administering either a general or local anaesthetic. Patients needn’t worry about scars from Rhinoplasty, as ENT surgeons usually make incisions on the inside rim of the nostrils to avoid them. However, if a patient needs complicated nose surgery, their surgeon may make a small cut on the base of the nose, resulting in a tiny scar.
During Rhinoplasty, the nose surgeon will separate the soft tissue of the nose from the bone or cartilage. The nose is then trimmed and moved accordingly, while the cartilage is given a new shape. The last steps of the nose surgery include the application of a splint, and the use of gauze to lightly pack the nostrils.
Most patients undergoing Rhinoplasty would not need stitches. For simple procedures where nose size is not changed, the nose will only be taped. The doctor will use dissolving sutures for those who need complicated nose surgery, which take about two weeks to dissolve. Stitches will be used only if the nose surgery required an incision to be made over the skin dividing the nostrils.
Depending on the Rhinoplasty procedure, surgery can last for one to three hours. Most patients will need to stay overnight at our London clinic. After around two weeks of having nose surgery, a patient will be able to rejoin work. However, it may take around a month before they can get up to speed on their usual activities.
